Modern road signs are, first of all, the signs regulating the road traffic. That's why their history goes back only about one hundred years. Rapidity of such signs development is akin growing speed of a car. In such a short period of time it has appeared more than thousand kinds of signs, and their appearance, materials and ways of presentation have changed many a time. But their purpose has been immutable: to secure all the participants of road traffic, to erase cultural boundaries and to overcome language barrier. Protocols and standards, beeing accepted in different countries, help to understand how the process of worldwide unification was going.
